Bridging Innovation & Impact: Dr. Sebastian Schmidt-Roach Discusses Our Technology in Interview with CORDAP

CORDAP (the Coral Research & Development Accelerator Platform) is a global initiative driving innovation in coral reef science to address the urgent impacts of climate change.

This month, Ocean Revive’s CEO and co-founder, Dr. Sebastian Schmidt-Roach, was featured in a two-part interview series on CORDAP’s Instagram platform, where he outlined how Ocean Revive is advancing restoration through modular, scalable, and cost-effective technologies. He explained how our tools are not only grounded in rigorous science but are also designed for real-world deployment at meaningful scales, bridging the gap between research and reef recovery.

Coral Restoration Technology for Scalable Reef Recovery

During his time at KAUST, Dr. Sebastian Schmidt-Roach was the lead inventor of the Maritechture™ tools, laying the foundation for what has become Ocean Revive’s core technology platform.

Since founding Ocean Revive, our team has continued to refine, expand, and field-test these tools, evolving them into a robust suite of coral restoration systems designed for real-world deployment at scale. Our technology is engineered to address three of the most persistent challenges in coral restoration:

  • Scalability -With coral loss accelerating, restoration must operate at the ecosystem level, not just isolated sites

  • Speed -Efficient tools allow reef restoration projects to maximise impact

  • Cost -Technologies must be affordable and accessible to practitioners globally, not just in high-budget programs

In addition, our systems are designed to support selective breeding and assisted evolution workflows, enabling practitioners to integrate climate resilience into their restoration strategies.

Ocean Revive’s Role in the Global Coral Restoration Movement

This conversation with CORDAP reflects Ocean Revive’s position as both a technology innovator in global coral restoration. We work at the interface of scientific discovery and on-the-ground application, helping scale efforts from local test sites to multi-hectare reefscapes.

We are committed to:

  • Scaling coral restoration practices in climate-stressed reef environments

  • Partnering with governments, researchers, and NGOs worldwide

  • Contributing to policy frameworks and toolkits that accelerate reef recovery globally
