Ocean Revive Takes on Boston: Scaling BlueTech for Coral Reef Restoration

Last month, Ocean Revive travelled to Boston to participate in the MIT Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program (MIT REAP) as part of the Sedrah Accelerator cohort 2 under Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water & Agriculture (MEWA).

The week gave us the opportunity to showcase our mission and connect with global innovators. From pitching at Venture Café Cambridge to exploring cutting-edge innovation at Greentown Labs and immersing ourselves in MIT’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, Ocean Revive brought Saudi Arabia’s BlueTech and marine conservation innovation to the international stage.

Learning from MIT Faculty: Scaling Innovation in Sustainability

The program offered a unique opportunity to learn directly from MIT REAP faculty, whose lectures and workshops sparked fresh strategies for scaling entrepreneurship and driving sustainable impact. Engaging discussions with our Sedrah cohort reinforced how innovation and collaboration can accelerate ocean sustainability solutions and climate-smart BlueTech ventures.

Highlights from Boston

The week was packed with experiences that broadened our perspective and sharpened our mission:

  • Pitching at Venture Café Cambridge

Our CEO & Co-Founder, Dr. Sebastian Schmidt-Roach, presented Ocean Revive’s modular coral nurseries, reef resilience strategies, and expert-led training initiatives on a global stage

  • Exploring Greentown Labs

We explored North America’s largest climate tech startup incubator, gaining insight into how leading entrepreneurs shape sustainable solutions for oceans, energy, and climate challenges

  • Immersed at MIT

Engaging directly with MIT’s innovation ecosystem provided inspiration and practical tools to refine our BlueTech strategy and scale our impact globally.

A Cohort of Sustainability Innovators

We were proud to stand alongside nine other Saudi-based start-ups tackling diverse sustainability challenges, from climate tech to waste management: FBNI, SUSTIDAMA, Net Zero Build, Seavo, Tree Geo Data, Alterba, Carbon Predict, Polymeron, and Wastech.

Being part of this talented cohort highlighted the strength of Saudi Arabia’s emerging BlueTech and sustainability ecosystem and reinforced the power of collaboration in driving real-world impact.

Scaling Coral Reef Restoration with BlueTech Solutions

Our time in Boston reinforced the urgency of scaling coral reef restoration innovation. The insights, global connections, and inspiration we gained will directly shape Ocean Revive’s next chapter — from expanding our modular coral gardening systems to advancing data-driven reef resilience strategies and forming global partnerships that unlock sustainable value for oceans and coastal communities.

As we return to the Red Sea, we do so with renewed purpose: to accelerate the BlueTech movement and ensure coral reefs thrive for generations to come.
